“My two boys, ages 9 and 12, really enjoy their piano lessons. She keeps them motivated with fun pieces to learn. She always finds music that the older one is interested in; mostly dramatic soundtracks. Along with the fun pieces, they are exposed to various scales in different keys and weekly music theory assignments. My preference has been to always have music be a personal expression that they master at their own pace; not a pressurized set of drills to master in some artificial timeline.
